“Electronic and noisy trance music inspired by indigenous cultures from the Caribbean, Central and South America.“

Frank Rosaly’s Ruidoscuro. is profound research into his native Puerto Rican, central and south American roots in concert with his rich background as an improviser, composer and jazz musician. Rosaly received a large grant in 2021from AFK (Amsterdam) to compose music illustrating complex metaphors of pre-Columbus indigenous musical languages and their integration into the developing musical diaspora from Africa to The Andes. Using electronics alongside acoustic to create an unworldly reflections of native instruments of pre-Columbus indigenous instruments, strict sequential patterns against free improvisation to inhabit ritualistic musical movement— the music has a dark, haunting narrative in a richly layered context of spinning polyrhythms, bi-tonal melodic material and pivoting harmonic structures. This is new music that aims to defy classification, pigeonholing and centralization, easily refuting the pitfalls of “world music”. The material of Ruidoscuro is written explicitly for this combination of acclaimed international talent because of their unclassifiable approach to sound and improvisation— for their voices to be at once featured and indistinguishable. Using melody, trance, energy and ‘frequency dispersion’, we invite the audience to become enveloped in a communal and spacial expansion through sound. More info.
